Cabaret (1974)
Intro
A musical by John Kander and Fred Ebb, performed at the Redgrave Theatre, Farnham (15 August - 7 September 1974).
Overview
The cast and crew involved with this production of Cabaret invited theatregoers to 'relive with us the extraordinary atmoshphere of ''Cabaret'' - Berlin - 1930' (extract from the theatre programme).
At Berlin's seedy Kit Kat Klub, young British entertainer Sally Bowles is the headline act who catches the eye of an American writer, Cliff Bradhsaw.
Their troubled relationship is played out in the shadow of the political and social unrest surrounding the Nazis' rise to power during the Thirties.

Notes
The theatre programme for this production of Cabaret, which was presented by the Farnham Repertory Company, points out that the character of Sally Bowles is based on a real club singer who entertained the crowds in Berlin.
Zoe won considerable praise for her portrayal of Sally - which saw her performing numerous songs, including 'Mama', 'Perfectly Marvellous', and 'Cabaret' - and has described working on the musical as 'one of the best things that's ever happened to me' (see 'Zoe Wanamaker - New Funny Girl in Town' interview).
The spectacle of Cabaret benefitted greatly from the modern technical facilities available at the Farnham Repertory Company's new theatre, as The Stage pointed out. The musical was one of the first productions to be staged there.
